Stained glass imbedded in floor

Hello,
I'm curious if anyone has come across an instance of stained glass being imbedded in the floor of a house
with a skylight above it that would send light through the stained glass to the floors below.
I've just inherited the house I grew up in, a Victorian/Edwardian in San Francisco
and I seem to remember my mom mentioning that she thought this was the case at some point before she bought the house.
You can see a rectangular piece has been replaced with wood in the floor and the outline is faintly clear in the ceiling of the second floor.
I have found no reference to this practice as of yet, but have only really looked on the internet.
Any thoughts?

A skylight is on the roof of the building and is weather proofed. On interior ceilings the glass is called a laylight. It sounds like you had a skylight with a laylight in the ceiling below it.
